Do billionairs make you sick too?

Straight from Forbes -

"This year the world's billionaires have an average net worth of $3 billion. The world now has 793 billionaires."

Now for why I hate billionaires:

Now, 45% of those billionaires are Americans, that's 356 U.S. billionaires. Now lets say each of those billionaires decides they want to help people out, and give $10,000, to 100 families/people, a month, for a year. That'd help 12,000 families per billionaire for a total of 4,272,000 families/people in a single year.

$10,000 to 100 people a month, is 1 million dollars. Which means each billionaire would give out 12 million in a single year. The average billionaire has $3 billion, 12 million of that is 0.004% of the AVERAGE billionaires wealth.

Now, if you had the chance to help out 12,000 people/families with 0.004% of what you're "worth" in dollars, would you do it?

The way you put it, I wouldn't. It is the same as welfare system just coming from a private person. It doesn't work.

If I won a billion dollars .. and I could find 12,000 people that are in my current relationship status, that are trying desperately to fix it and it only took .004% of what I was worth after I won the billion, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm not saying its mandatory and I'm not saying everybody deserves help. But knowing what it feels like being in the situation I'm in, and knowing I could help out 12k people with not even a tenth of a percent of what I own, I'd help.

How do you know who is worth helping and who is not? How do you know (or control) that your help goes for the right purpose?

the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Look up stats on the distribution of wealth over the past 50 years.. it's pretty sickening

I'm with Cassie on this one. I'd set up foundations and non-profits to help those without means, not dole it out.

I would have to agree with Doobie on this one. Seriously, what about that guy that sleeps in the cardboard box around the corner. You don't think $10K would help that guy? Why doesn't he deserve to be helped?

But I also understand what Cassie is saying. Another way to put it is, "you can't help those that won't help themselves". But you can take that another step, you can really see those that are trying to help themselves. The single mom that works 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet, the family that lives in a travel trailer, but the kids always gets to school on time. There's plenty of examples and most are really obvious.

See. If I was worth $3Billion I would help out. But I would like to have some fun with it.

I would do a single elimination UFC match for anyone in need of aide. $10,000 promised to all entrants with a top prize of $1M

The next month would be a poker tournament.

After that a dodgeball tournament.

Doobie would be a full time "employee" which is cushy title by which he gets paid 200k/yr to get ideas for monthly events and set up the venues/details.

$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.

If each billion gave $37,831,021, they could end world hunger. Not saying that's not a lot, but to save so many people (~6 people die in a minute from the effects of Poverty). Think how many people are in your family right now, how many minutes would your family last?

I know it really sucks with today's world. I work for Mc Donalds and they're a 30 billion dollar corporation. Think how much they're making in a day, and there are ~500 stores in Australia, and even more around the world.

For the short term for hunger, yes it would Cassie .. And seeing that many people fed by that much generousity might spur others to take action to, way to be negative on this entire thread though

I am not negative, I just don't agree that it will solve the problem. Someone smart said that if you want to feed once you share your meal, but if you want to feed for life you teach skills needed. Humanitarian help is received all over the world, but it doesn't solve the problem and not because the help is too small.

You are negative. Don't you think that in order to teach someone, they need to be in a place that they can learn, in a place that they're ABLE to do something. I'm sorry but if I only eat every 3-4 days for 5 years, I won't be able to eat a meal, hop up on my feet and be ready to learn or be able to do what was needed so that I could fix my own situation

No, I don't think so. Any place is a good place to learn. The worse situation is the more you want to get out of it and would do more than if someone provides for you.
