In my apartment in college I had two floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, FULL of books. And when I say full, I mean full. Rows of books where pushed all the way to the back of the shelf, and a second row was created in front. Then I crammed ones I couldn't fit in rows on top of the books in rows in between the top of the books and the shelf above it... then I piled them on top of the bookshelves. Along with the books I had in my bedroom (always at least 3 for bedtime reading) the ones in my backpack (1-2 for bus reading on the way to class, and sometimes DURING class) and the ones in my bathroom ('cause it gets boring in there...). That compounded with the fact that those were the books I collected DURING college, not the ones I had stored away at my home in California... and that I have since then bought more books...

And people say smoking or crack is addictive and expensive... try thousands of books, mostly all hardcovers...

The only thing I have to say about the whole thing is....

CEDRIC! WHY DID YOU DIE!!!!!

Cause if you didn't know, its the same friggin guy.

And of books, I used to have a shit-ton more than i do now. I'm kind of a packrat, holding on to sentimental things.

My favorite books are either all of my Diane Mott Davidson books (caterer who solves mysteries, recipes in books) or the Nanotech Quartet by Kathleen Ann Goonan (of which I am still missing Mississippi Blues.

Oh, and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. That's gonna be a movie in 2010 and I'm so fucking excited!

And, of course, HP. Last year, me and my roomie and his gf went to the release party at borders to get our books and I am the ONLY ONE OF US WHO HAS ACTUALLY READ IT!!!!

kind of annoying actually.

Twilight - Page 2 Empty Re: Twilight

Post by Torem Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:10 pm

I picked up book one a few weeks ago, and finished book four last friday. Saw the movie the day after i finished book one, and again the day after i finished book four.

The books are very, very well written, almost mesmerizing. the first time i saw the movie, i thought it was ok, but of course, like any book made into a movie, it loses something. When i saw the movie the second time i came away really having enjoyed it a lot more. Just noticing things beyond what was obviously going on in the foreground.

Since the books are written in first person, and you get a lot of stuff that is going on in Bella's head, making that a movie is pretty difficult. But when i saw the movie the second time i noticed a lot more of the little things that weren't talked about in the movie, but were just there, and taken for granted - like Bella's clumsiness and Edward's ability. When so much of the books are just the character's thoughts, i imagine it would be really difficult to write a screenplay that made sense and matched up.

I highly recomend this for anyone that enjoys high fantasy books with strong character building (Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Wizard's First Rule). There isn't a lot of action, the series plays far more on emotions than actions, but it is a great story. Book 4 is not what you would expect, but if you give it time to develop, it comes back into line with the first three books, and has a strong ending.

I have been slacking on my reading.
I still have half of Antarktos rising to read. good so far.
And 6 Star wars books to read. 4 of which are the republic commando series.
Stupid travian and combat arms. I like to FPS for a bit when I have everything going in travian.

I have to agree with Torem. I have only been to the movie theater to see it once, but my mom found a website you can watch it on (not the best quality, but it works) and we have watched it 2 more times. The more we watch it, the more we like it. Needless to say I will own the 1st one and will see the 2nd on when it comes out (b/c yes, as of 22NOV2008, just one day after the release, they announced they will make the 2nd one).

Post by T&A - Halz Thu Dec 11, 2008 11:22 pm

I've read the series, my ex was a HUGE fan, since the author is from AZ and is pretty much covered in the news all the time.

I can honestly state that I do like the books, they are definitely aimed at a younger audience, IMO, but they are still good to read.

However, the movie for sure is aimed at young pubescents (i.e. look at the "eye" candy) and I almost felt like a pedophile watching the movie surrounded by girls younger than 16. The movie was definitely missing a lot from the book, but most movies made on books are like that anyways.

So my advice :

Read the books THAN see the movie (otherwise you'll get the impression that the movie is representative of the book, which is just not the case)

def. agree.

i read all four now.

the first was my favorite book and i think like torem said, it has a LOT more character development. doesnt make Edward seem such a stalker always chasing after bella.

but.. even when i was in the theatre.. surrounded by 14yr old girls.. i kept laughing at their reactions when they kissed or stuff and the girls all giggled in the audience. i just felt so old.

movie was good though, although i saw it before reading the books. And yeah, Cedric/Edward is good looking.. but Carlisle is hotter!!!!
