Actually, they said they would need to make a certain amount of money off of the 1st one before they could definitely make the second one. They did a whole interview with Stephenie Meyer and the Production Company for the 1st one. After the opening night and they saw the $$$$, they made a public announcement that they had reached their target and were officially stating they would continue to the 2nd one
